What Is Extrait de Parfum?

Last updated 17 October 2026

Extrait de parfum is the strongest grade of perfume. The name is French for “perfume extract”, and it means the bottle holds more perfume oil and less alcohol than any other kind of spray.

Extrait, eau de parfum and eau de toilette

Perfumes are graded by how much perfume oil they contain. The exact figures vary from house to house, but the usual ranges are:

  • Eau de cologne: about 2–5% perfume oil. Fresh, and gone within a couple of hours.
  • Eau de toilette: about 5–15%. Light, usually a few hours.
  • Eau de parfum: about 15–20%. The most common grade.
  • Extrait de parfum: about 20–40%. The richest and longest-lasting.

Every Scent Pûr fragrance is an extrait, blended at 35–40% perfume oil, at the top of that range.

Why it matters in Pakistan

Heat and humidity make alcohol evaporate fast, and with it the lighter parts of a perfume. A higher share of perfume oil means there is more left on your skin after the first hour, so the scent lasts through a long day or a wedding night without a top-up.

How to wear an extrait

  • Use fewer sprays than you would with a lighter perfume: two or three is usually enough.
  • Spray on pulse points: the neck, behind the ears and the inside of the wrists.
  • Do not rub your wrists together. It warms the oil too fast and blurs the opening.

Longevity still depends on the fragrance: fresh citrus scents fade sooner than amber or oud. Each product page lists its own hours.
